Program Overview

The NNA Health Policy Fellows Program is designed to prepare nurses to lead and influence health policy. Through interactive sessions, mentorship, and applied experiences, Fellows build the skills necessary to engage in policy development, advocacy, and reform at the state level.

Program Duration: 13 months (February–February)
Format: 9 virtual and 2 in-person sessions

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

THE PROGRAM IS OPEN TO REGISTERED NURSES IN NEBRASKA WHO:

Are interested in health policy, advocacy, and leadership

Wish to develop skills to impact policy and legislation

Can commit to the full one-year program schedule

Seek to advance health equity and the nursing profession

Application Process

Applicants will be asked to provide:

  • Personal Statement (1–2 pages) describing interest in health policy, leadership goals, and commitment to advocacy.
  • Letter of Support from a supervisor, colleague, or professional mentor (optional but encouraged).

  • Access the application form on the NNA website.
  • Upload required documents.
  • Submit before the application deadline: December 15, 2025

  • Applications are reviewed by the NNA Health Policy Fellows Selection Committee.
  • Selection is based on demonstrated interest in policy, leadership potential, and commitment to advancing nursing and health equity.
  • Applicants will be notified of acceptance via email by [Insert notification date].

  • Attend and actively participate in all scheduled sessions (virtual and in-person).
  • Engage in mentorship with assigned health policy leaders.
  • Complete readings, critiques, and policy development activities.
  • Collaborate with peers to propose policy solutions.
  • Commit to professional conduct and uphold the mission of NNA.

  • Program Fee: $1,035, but due to the generous contributions of the Carol Wilson fund, participants’ cost is $985
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 3–5 hours per month, including sessions, readings, and mentorship activities.
