2026 Leadership Opportunities:

Board of Directors | 2-year term

The Treasurer helps safeguard NNA’s financial health and ensures the Board and membership have a clear understanding of the association’s financial position.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Monitor NNA’s financial affairs and help ensure strong financial oversight.
  • Provide financial reports and interpretation of NNA’s financial condition to the Board, Annual Membership Meeting, and membership.
  • Oversee development of the NNA budget in collaboration with the Governance, Finance & Membership Committee.
  • Contribute to the Board’s financial decision-making and long-term stewardship of the association.

You’re comfortable with financial information, strategic thinking, accountability, and helping ensure NNA remains financially strong and sustainable.

ANA Membership Assembly Representative | 2-year term

Represent Nebraska nurses at the national level by serving as an NNA representative to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Membership Assembly. Representatives help ensure Nebraska’s voice is heard in national nursing discussions and decisions.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Represent NNA at the ANA Membership Assembly in Washington DC.
  • Participate in National discussions and decisions affecting the nursing profession.
  • Help bring Nebraska nurses’ perspectives and priorities to the national level.
  • Stay connected to national nursing issues and share relevant information with NNA members.

This role may be a great fit for you if:

You’re interested in national nursing issues, professional advocacy, leadership, and representing the voice of Nebraska nurses.

5 positions available | 2-year terms

Help make sure nurses have a voice where decisions are being made. LARC is NNA’s advocacy-focused committee. Members help identify and respond to legislative and healthcare issues that affect nurses, patients, and the profession.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Help develop NNA’s legislative priorities.
  • Monitor and analyze legislation affecting nursing and healthcare.
  • Help NNA respond to emerging healthcare and advocacy issues.
  • Communicate NNA’s positions to policymakers, members, and the public.
  • Encourage nurses to participate in advocacy and engage with elected officials.
  • Bring the expertise and perspectives of Nebraska nurses to important policy discussions.

This role may be a great fit for you if: You’re interested in healthcare policy, government, advocacy, public affairs, or making sure nurses have a seat at the table.

Current bylaws-based responsibilities: Planning and implementing nurse advocacy activities and representing NNA’s approved positions on state and local concerns.

Positions include: Region 1 • Region 2 • Region 3 • Region 4 • At-Large

6 positions available | 2-year terms

Help nurses across Nebraska grow, learn, and thrive. NPDC focuses on professional development, education, recognition, and opportunities that support nurses throughout their careers.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Support professional development opportunities for Nebraska nurses.
  • Help identify and respond to emerging healthcare and nursing issues.
  • Provide input on educational offerings for NNA’s Annual Membership Meeting.
  • Support NNA’s continuing education and approval processes.
  • Help review and coordinate reference proposals.
  • Participate in NNA’s awards, scholarships, and recognition programs—including the Nightingale Tribute.

This role may be a great fit for you if: You’re passionate about nursing education, professional development, mentoring, clinical practice, or recognizing the accomplishments of Nebraska nurses.

Current bylaws-based responsibilities: Planning and implementing activities related to nursing professional development and NNA events, including education, approval, awards, scholarships, and recognition processes.

Representation includes: Nursing Practice • Nursing Faculty • Nursing Professional Education

The committee is designed to include a mix of nurses working in clinical practice, professional development/staff development, and nursing education, with representation from both rural and urban areas of Nebraska.

5 positions available | 2-year terms

Help strengthen the foundation of NNA. GFMC helps guide the association’s financial health, membership growth, governance, and long-term sustainability.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Review NNA’s financial reports and provide recommendations to the Board.
  • Help review the association’s annual budget.
  • Develop ideas for non-dues fundraising.
  • Help identify candidates for NNA leadership positions.
  • Develop strategies to recruit and retain NNA members.
  • Review proposed changes to NNA’s bylaws.

This role may be a great fit for you if: You’re interested in organizational leadership, finance, membership, governance, strategic planning, or helping build a stronger NNA for the future.

Current bylaws-based responsibilities: Providing guidance related to membership recruitment and retention, leadership recruitment, financial oversight, budgeting, fundraising, and bylaws.

Representation includes: Staff Nursing • Nursing Administration • Rural Nursing • Urban Nursing • Nursing Education

Who Can Serve?

To serve on the NNA Board of Directors, you must:

  • Hold current individual membership in ANA/NNA.
  • Not simultaneously serve as an officer or director of another organization if that service could create a conflict of interest with NNA.

Specific qualifications may apply to individual committee positions.

How NNA Leadership Works

Most NNA committee and Board positions are two-year terms, running from January through December.

President-Elect leadership progression

1 year President-Elect → 2 years President → 1 year Immediate Past President

Applications for appointment to open positions may be accepted throughout the year, while elections for other positions are held in the fall following the Annual Membership Assembly.
