Nebraska Nurses Association Opposes Proposed Elimination of Funding for the Nebraska Center for Nursing

The Nebraska Nurses Association (NNA) strongly opposes the proposed $6,000,000 reduction in funding to the Nebraska Center for Nursing included in the Appropriations Committee’s budget recommendation.

The Nebraska Center for Nursing is a vital workforce infrastructure entity dedicated to addressing the state’s ongoing nursing shortage. Through data-driven strategies, workforce planning, and collaboration with healthcare and education partners, the Center plays a critical role in ensuring Nebraska has a strong, sustainable nursing workforce.

Eliminating this funding would significantly hinder efforts to recruit, educate, and retain nurses across the state. At a time when healthcare systems are facing increased demand and workforce strain, reducing investment in nursing is both short-sighted and detrimental to patient care.

NNA urges policymakers to reject any amendment that includes this reduction and to prioritize continued investment in Nebraska’s nursing workforce to protect access to safe, high-quality care for all Nebraskans.
